Why would I want to encrypt email sent to DRS?

Whenever one transmits data across a public network such as the Internet, there is always a risk of that data being captured while in transit. Encrypting the data prior to sending prevents untrusted parties from being able to read your data.

I just received an email titled "DRS Secured Message" for the first time. What do I do now?
Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open your web browser and go to
  2. On the page labeled "PGP Universal Web Messenger", enter the passphrase provided by DRS in the space below the word "Passphrase."
  3. Click the "Login" button.
  4. Next, enter a new passphrase in both text boxes and click "Continue." We strongly encourage you to follow the password guidelines provided by PGP that are printed directly above the passphrase boxes.
  5. On the "Future Message Delivery Options" page, select the option labeled, "PGP Web Messenger" and click "Choose Option". This will setup your new secure DRS/PGP Web Messenger email account. You will be taken to a page that contains your secured email message with the DRS logo near the top left.
  6. Click the "Reply" button at the upper left of the page.
  7. To confirm your account has been created, type a short message to the sender confirming your account has been created. Then, click the "Send" button at the top left of the screen to send your response. A delivery confirmation screen is displayed notifying you the message was sent to DRS.
  8. You may click the "Logout" button at the top right when you are finished.

Congratulations. You have set up a secure, web-based email account. This can be used to both send and recieve items securely to or from DRS. Whenever DRS sends you a secure email, it will arrive at this account. You will be notified of any new secure messages by an email sent to your usual email address. How can I setup the ability to send encrypted email to DRS directly from Outlook?

You may already be receiving secured email from DRS titled "DRS Secured Message" prompting you to login to our secure email server. The browser interface may be fine for sending or receiving the occasional email, but may not be practical for frequent sending or receiving.

If you are currently using the DRS Securemail web interface and would like to send or receive secure email directly to your normal Inbox, follow the instructions below:

  1. Login to the Web Messenger interface at
  2. Click "Settings".
  3. Next, choose "PGP Universal Satellite" and click "Choose Option"
  4. Download the installer package when prompted. Double-click the installer to begin installation. (NOTE: A reboot is required after installation. Be sure to save any documents, etc before installation)
  5. After you have installed the software, double-click the PGP Satellite icon, located in your system tray (next to the clock).
  6. Click "Add", then select "PGP Universal Server External" as the type.
  7. In the Server box, type ""(without quotes), and type your email address in the Email box.
  8. Next, click "Retrieve Policy". The program will add DRS' secure mail server in the list of servers in the column on the left.

Once these steps are completed, all future secure email messages from DRS will be delivered to your Inbox. Additionally, all email that you send to DRS will be secured.

My organization already uses PGP Desktop. Do I need to setup PGP Satellite as well?

No. You can setup PGP Desktop to send mail securely to DRS. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Right-click on the PGP Desktop lock icon, located in the system tray. Select "Options."
  2. Select the "Servers" tab, and click "New."
  3. Type "" (without quotes) in the "Name" field. Be sure "PGP Keyserver LDAP" is selected for "Type."
  4. Select the second item under "Serves Keys for Domain", and enter "" (without quotes) in the space provided and click "Ok."
